One of the first VEX robotics teams in Minnesota, is back at it again for the 2020 robotics competitions with Nick Mickelson as their coach and advisor.
The Iron Chargers started in 2012, since then they've had many wins, their biggest is going to the World competition. They’ve also had many losses. When asked, coach Mickelson told us about the hardest loss in his years coaching The Iron Chargers. Last year, the Seniors experienced a heart breaking experience. It was the second to the last game, their last chance to make it to State. After all the effort, the hours, the hope, they just didn’t quite make it.
“I think it was hard for them knowing that it was their last chance to go to State. It was hard to watch.” said Coach Mickelson.
All hardships behind them, and with a clean plate, practice starts this week, giving the team only a couple of months to build their robots until competitions start in early November. The Iron Chargers have skill, wit, an impeccable reputation. With the community and the school’s support The Iron Chargers could be unstoppable.
