Special Education

Students in Special Education have a disability and require specialized instruction. A comprehensive evaluation, conducted by a team from the public school, evaluates and identifies these students. Students with disabilities in Minnesota Public Schools range in age from birth through the age of 22. Special education means specifically designed instruction, at no cost to the parents, to meet the unique needs of a child with a disability. Each student who receives Special Education and related services must have an Individualized Education Program (IEP).

As the Special Education teacher at Grygla School, I provide a wide variety of services, classes, and support to students in grades K-12. Students in Special Education must meet specific criteria (within a disability area) for services under MN law.

The Grygla School District belongs to the NWRIC. This is a Special Education Cooperative comprised of eight member school districts that have joined together to provide services in the area of Special Education. Categorical Disabilities include:

  • Severely impaired

  • Autism spectrum disorders

  • Blind/visually impaired

  • Deaf/blind

  • Deaf and hard of hearing

  • Developmental cognitive disabilities

  • Physically impaired

  • Specific learning disabilities

  • Speech or language impairments

  • Traumatic brain injuries

Title I Services

Our school is recognized as a schoolwide Title I School. Any student can qualify to receive Title I services if there is a need identified in the regular education classroom. Parents can also request Title I Services for their child. This program aids in strengthening the student's learning by allowing those who may struggle academically. It allows students who have received services in the past to have access to similar services. If you have questions concerning Title I Service, please feel free to contact me or our principal Mr. Derek Gieseke.
